The main hip hinge — and the lower-risk replacement for the conventional Barbell Deadlift (no lifting from a dead stop on the floor). Builds hamstrings, glutes, and a strong low back, and the book highlights it as a mobility builder: heavy RDLs lengthen tight hamstrings over time.
Cues
Soft knees, push the hips back, bar close to the legs, neutral spine, lower until you feel a strong hamstring stretch (range improves over time), then drive the hips forward. Don't round to chase depth.
Programming
4 × 6–10, 2–3 RIR. Controlled eccentric.
How to progress
Double progression and increasing range of motion as hamstrings open — the book counts added ROM as overload. → Progression §5
