You asked to swap out the deadlift for lower-risk options. The conventional deadlift has the highest low-back risk-to-reward of your big lifts (heavy load from a dead stop on the floor, easy to round under fatigue). For a 45-year-old chasing function + longevity rather than a 1RM, the same benefits can be trained more safely.
What replaces it
Hip hinge / hamstrings → Romanian Deadlift (no floor dead-stop, also a mobility builder)
Glutes / hip extension → Hip Thrust and Back Extension (minimal spinal compression)
Loaded spinal resilience (the real deadlift benefit) → Jefferson Curl, trained light and slow
Posterior-chain knee/ankle work → Backward Sled Drag
If you ever want it back
Trap-bar or block/rack pulls are lower-risk re-entry points. But nothing here is missing without it.
